Lord, We Have Left All

“Lord, we have left all to follow thee.”
Why? Why did they walk away from good jobs, leave home, follow a rogue Rabbi? Was there honor or fame there? Was it “fun”? Adventure? What motivated them?
What motivates you? Why do you do what you do? Is God “making” you serve Him? Do you have to? If you're living for self, is it because of Satan—you can't help it?
Choose ye this day. This day is a gift that you didn’t earn but God chose to grant. It is our reasonable service. In Him we live and move and have our being.
Can I catch a glimpse of God today? Not the “god” with a stick, chasing me down if I do wrong—no, not that one. Can I see the tender, loving God who is cheering me on, the One who wants me to win even more than I want it? Can I see God today, pouring down grace and mercy, granting me the power of heaven to win against sin and Satan? Can I really see Him today?
Perhaps that’s what motivated them—they saw Him...
Oh Father, open my eyes today... AMEN
